A small experiment with Future You.

“I will do this, for this long, and see what happens.” Pacts turn a change you want to try into daily practice and an honest review. Inspired by Anne-Laure Le Cunff's Tiny Experiments.

An example experiment. No streak to protect. Something to learn.

1. Start with a question worth living

Will a walk before work help me arrive with more energy? Will practicing a difficult skill three times a week make it easier? Write the experiment, your hypothesis, and how confident you are. Choose how long to run it.

Type /pact in Boblo's What happened box to start. Your pact is a promise to Future You. You can also name the people or group it ultimately matters to.

  • Soul: your inner life, mind, and heart.
  • Body: your physical wellbeing.
  • Craft: the skills you use in the world.
  • Realm: the world and relationships you tend.

2. Choose a rhythm that fits your life

Write a cadence in plain words. Choose specific days, such as weekdays or Mon Wed Fri, or a count, such as 3x a week. Set a run of 30 days, four weeks, or another length that makes sense for the experiment.

Boblo reads the cadence back as you write it. Practice appears on Today. A count-based pact shows progress for the current period, such as 1 of 3 this week, and resets for the next period.

  • On dates: daily, Tue/Thu, every other Friday, first Monday.
  • By count: twice a day, 3x a week, once a month.
  • Set a review day, or let it fall on the day after your run.

3. Notice what happens as you practice

Mark a practice Kept and note the time and energy it took. Open its page to record what you noticed. Those notes gather into the pact's story, ready for the review.

You can skip a day with a reason or record a practice you forgot to mark. Boblo distinguishes a deliberate skip from a day that simply passed, and from a missing record. There is no streak to lose.

If the rhythm needs changing, Revise it. Boblo keeps the date and reason, and reads earlier practice against the cadence that applied then.

4. Review the evidence. Choose what comes next.

At review time, Boblo brings together your original hypothesis and confidence, the practice record, time and energy, revisions, and notes. Reflect with Plus, Minus, Next, External signals, and Internal signals.

  • Persist: keep this run and start the next, with your updated confidence.
  • Pivot: keep this run and begin another with the changes you want to try.
  • Pause: keep this run without starting another.
